Lut Desert

Hottest Place on Earth?

Iran’s Lut holds the record for having the Earth’s hottest surface temperature, which can climb as high as 159 degrees Fahrenheit (70 degrees Celsius).

Kaluts, Sand Dunes & other wonders

Moreover, this region is unique in many other cases. For instance, we can mention gigantic rock formations or Kaluts, some of the tallest sand dunes in the world (Yalan Sand Dunes), salt plains, salt lake, forgotten castles and rivers.

Do you remember the surreal desert in the first star wars? We have heard many times that Kalouts of Lut desert could be the perfect location! So, come with us and camp outside under the stars to have a memory you will never forget.

Salt Lake?!

The only thing that was missing from this surreal landscape was a lake and…
After the floods of early spring 2019, part of the salt river that was near the road has become a lake! So, nowadays we have a salt lake near the Kaluts of Lut desert in Kerman.

All About Kaluts

Find out everything that you need to know about Kaluts of Lut desert

Temperature of Lut desert?
Lut desert is considered as one of the hottest places on earth. As a result, being there in summers and during days when the temperature surpass 50 degrees Celsius whould be a challenge. Even in nights it’s too hot that you can’t stay or sleep there (the least temperature is around 33 degrees)!
On the other hand you may experience a cold night during winters (the least temperature can get around 0; so, it’s not that cold).

However, on the other seasons of the year Lut desert will be most agreeable and you can enjoy a perfect camping unfer the stars!

Temperature of Lut at night?
In contrast to what you may think, the nights of Lut are never too cold. Even in winters the temperature wouldn’t drop below zero. However it may be too hot in summers and specially in July.
Animals of Lut?
Lut is a hugely vast and diverse desert; so, it’s difficult to pinpoint a specific characteristic to it.

Nevertheless in the parts that we usually go, you can find sand fox, cheesman’s gerbil, Persian jird, Branford’s jerboa and sometimes wolf.

Kaluts Desert

Actualy the Kaluts (or Kalouts) are not a desert but a large area in which the rough, rocky Lut Desert has been sculpted by millennia of water and wind erosion into long lines of photogenic formations. Much the most impressive of these are five- to 10-storey high yardangs (‘sand castles’) with vertical or stepped sides. They are especially spectacular at sunset and sunrise when light and shadows turn the scene into a glowing canvas of gold and brown.

Keshit village is located in Golbaf restrict of Kerman. The nature of that region is mesmerizing with colorful mountains alongside the desert, palm trees, amazing landscapes and lively villages.

Keshit was once located on a commercial road which  connected Khorasan to Bam. That’s why you can find a huge citadel in Keshit that has the most genuine decorations and most of it is intact.

However, these are not the reason why we chose this place! In the middle of a vast flat and barren land in Lut desert there is crack and if you descend that crack you will get to this unimaginable place. A canyon where the water is coming out of its huge walls and running through the canyon it feed the plants, trees and wild life. To make it more unique, there is a waterfall and pool where you can chill out and swim.
